Out of our very own Golden, Colorado, we have the Golden Moon Distillery. Drew from the School House shared this rare find with us. What makes this rare you might ask, well he told us that they may not do another whiskey like this one, which you can see this bottle is Cask #1. Golden Moon uses malted barley that is grown in and around the surrounding states of Colorado. The whiskey is malted and aged for one year in oak casks and then moved to used casks.
The Nose on this whiskey is of malted barley, such a sweet smell.
The taste is sweet and slightly warm. You can taste the toasted malt which over powers the sweetness that one first receives so it leaves you thinking... what is that hint of sweet. Then towards the end of the sample I think I have figured it out. The sweetness is more like a roasted marshmallow that someone lightly toasts and then drizzles caramel on it because the roasted marshmallow itself, is just not sweet enough.
I will definitely be looking to see if I can find this whiskey for my collection. Great sipping whiskey by a campfire. If Golden Moon decides not to do another whiskey like this I will be interested to see what does come out from the distillery. Will need to pay them a visit!
