Axe and the Oak - Colorado Mountain Incline Rye Whiskey

Aged 1 year
98 proof 49% alcohol
65% rye from Ravencamp Farms in Hugo, CO, malted barley, malted rye, and corn.
Barrel 1 – One barrel was bottled for this release.  Only 130 bottles are out there, well accept for the one I have in my hot little hands.
On the nose:  The nose smells sweet with hints of caramel and pecans.  There is a mild malted grain scent that enriches your nose and makes you wonder what is next for the palate.
Taste:  Ok so the disclaimer… I have tasted this whiskey twice before at Axe and the Oak, before I opened my bottle (the guys there were kind enough to open the second bottle when I took Sam’s mom with me for the book interview).  Now that I have opened my bottle I am reminded why I REALLY like this rye.  It starts mildly warm as it rushes past the tip of the tongue, the malted grains create a smooth flavor that shares with a butterscotch and rye finish.  The sweet and the pepper from the rye complement each other nicely and makes this a great sipping whiskey.  This whiskey is one that I recommend straight.  In my opinion, no drops of water, ice of cocktail ingredients are needed to enhance the flavors of this whiskey.  It is absolutely delicious all on its own.  Enjoy.  Cheers!

Do you not get any chocolate on the nose? I got a little chocolate on the nose in with the first dram and I got a ton of chocolate on the nose once the oxygen really hit the open bottle a day or two later.
