Two Bitch Bourbon Pack Leader Reserve
Aged: Nine years 101.4 proof 50.7% alcohol Batch: 001 Bottle: 174 Two Bitch Bourbon has done it again with the surprise of their third release. Presenting to us, bourbon barrels that were aged 9 years. How were they able to get their paws on them, one will never know. On the Nose: The nose reminds me of the sweetness of Christmas. It starts with an oak scent that transforms into a brown sugar and plum. Taste: The bourbon is thick and very pronounced with a full mouth feel. It starts with a juicy fruit flavor (which I have been told by other master distillers is a good flavor to start with when compiling notes). Then I taste a slight molasses and full on vanilla creme brulee. It finishes with a white pepper that compliments the sweet side. Great sipping bourbon for a cold night on the porch next to your best friend. Aged 2 year
124.8 proof 62.4% alcohol Barrel 38 Bottle 49 On the nose: This cask strength, single malt whisky has a floral scent. A cross between flower petals and honey almond. A mild wood scent rounds it out, but the more you nose, the more you will get the floral piece. Taste: Spirit Hound Distillers bottles their whisky by the barrel. During the time that I met Craig he was sharing samples of Barrel 38 and I had to go back for more. Now some may think that barrel strength is too strong (since it is marked at 124.8 proof), but it provides great characteristics that makes you want to continue to sip the whisky until the last drop is gone from your glass, or refill it, your choice. This particular barrel has a heavy tobacco/peat/smoke flavor with a powerful pepper finish. The flavors follow all the way through the tasting similar to a scotch. The pepper is a nice compliment for the earth tones and a slight cocoa powder. Had to throw the chocolate in there. Spirit Hound is definitely a distillery that you will want to visit in Lyons, CO. You can try multiple barrels of whiskey and other spirits that they have available. I have got the point where I can pick out which barrels have Craig’s flavor profile written all over it (more of the scotch style whisky). A TRIO tasting of Koval's Whiskeys
Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey 94 proof 47% alcohol Aged: under 4 years On the Nose: Vanilla and oak, and a sweet scent from possibly the corn. But I cannot tie it to just one sweet smell. Taste: A heavy woodiness comes out and expressions of tobacco and chocolate coat the entire mouth. Single Barrel Rye Whiskey 80 proof 40% alcohol 100% Rye Whiskey On the Nose: mild floral and wood undertones Taste: In my opinion this is a very mild rye and great for those that would like to start trying rye whiskies. It has a buttery feel with a hint of mint and a very mild black pepper finish. I think the proof on the whiskey takes away from the peppery finish that I am used to, but I really like pepper forward ryes. This will definitely be recommended to those that enjoy whiskeys and have a preference of a less peppery finish. Single Barrel Whiskey Four Grain 94 proof 47% alcohol Four Grains: Oat, Malted Barley, Rye and Wheat On the Nose: Strange but the nose on this one does not give you a preview into what you will be tasting. Starts off with a scent of oak and almost presents a mild floral scent. It creeps in there when you least expect it. Taste: Buttery toffee flavor that is so smooth on the mouth feel and presents itself throughout the entire taste. Towards the end of the taste the mild pepper flavor comes in and makes itself know but is not over powering. Out of the three tastings my favorite is the Four Grain. The grains are perfectly billed out to make this a great whiskey. The mouth feel is so smooth and being able to taste the flavors all the way through if amazing. Cheers!
