Michael Myers started his life as a beauty and fashion photographer and traveled all over the country to take breathtaking pictures.  Living three blocks from the World Trade Towers in New York, during September of 2001, he and his children watched the plane hit the tower.  At that time he knew he needed to move his family out West to Colorado Springs.  As he was still traveling for work, in flight one day, he read an article about a gin and rum producer and thought that would be his next move, so he decided that distilling spirits is where we wanted to be.  To pay homage to his past he named the distillery after a famous photography gallery in New York, which also happened to be his dorm room number in Savannah, GA.

Distillery 291 in present day has the Wild West feel in everything they do.  Michael’s passion is to bring forward the feel of what was represented in the motion pictures of a Wild West movie. From the spirit, to the type of bottle and cap that are used, it is a very similar comparison to what you will find in a good John Wayne flick.  Imagine if you will, saloon doors opening wide, you walk across the floor with your spurs clanking against the wood.  You step up to the bar and the barkeep asks, “What will it be”?

Currently Distillery 291 makes:  Colorado Whiskey, Colorado Bourbon, American Whiskey, Decc (Citrus Clove Liqueur), Colorado Rye Whiskey, and an Unaged Corn Whiskey. Each barreled spirit decides when it is ready and the distillers decide whether it goes out the door cut with Colorado water or if it stays Barrel Proof.  All their products have a very high Colorado Corn content

Distillery 291 distilled its first batch of whiskey on September 11th, 2011.
